Nordic Walk in the Salt Fields

Tour highlights…

Guide will make you an introduction on how to use the Nordic walk poles. Once familiar with the equipment you will start your walk, all the way to the sea. Enjoying the views of a peaceful nature, lively birds and salt basins. Secoveljske soline is the most extensive salt fields in Slovenia, but now is a part of the Krajinski park Secoveljske soline.

During the tour you will walk approximate 6 km on flat surface. There are two entrances to the park. First one is at Lera, which is reached via a road in the village of Seca. On reaching the hut, it’s an 800m walk to the park’s souvenir shops, then another 800m to the visitor center, which gives detailed explanations of the salt – making process via a multimedia presentation and relief maps.


What you experience…

The second entrance is a Fontanigge, a long tracks runs alongside the Dragonja River, which marks the border between Slovenia and Croatia. Continuing along the track, dozens of deserted salt men’s houses slowly inch into view; it makes for an eerie sight, these stark, crumbling grey – stone houses.

Local guide will take you on the road of discovery of the salt production for more than 700 years old techniques, used for harvesting the salt. Upon the arrival to the starting point you will return back to the hotel with the transportation. Get a chance to learn more about this so called white gold and significance for the region and people living there.
