The tour starts from Portorož and after meeting with your guide, you continue to the Museum of Salt- making. Furthermore, on route to the Museum-like charming mediaeval town of Piran.

Tour highlights…

Salt harvesting has been practiced along the Slovenian coast since the first saltpans were introduced in Piran sometime in the fourteenth century. Secovlje is today the only place where harvesting still takes place, albeit on a much smaller scale than in its heyday during the first half of the twentieth century, when more than forty thousand tons of salt were yielded annually – today around five thousand tones are harvested each year. As interesting as the exhibits are, including a store of salt – making equipment and techniques and upstairs, a mock – up of a saltpanner’s living quarters, more fascinating is the detailed explanation of the salt – making process.
