Description

Have you heard about the Postojna caves? They are Slovenia’s most popular natural attraction (we also dare say Europe’s) . The caves were opened to the public in the early 19th century, with the first visitor of honor being the Austrian Emperor. Our guide will use the 50 minute ride to introduce you to modern Slovenia and also to its history, culture, various peoples living here through ages. It might come as a surprise to you but small Alpine Slovenia has over ten thousand registered caves. Caves are actually underground channels, a product of rainwater. The Postojna cave system is the longest with cave passages over 20 kilometers (12 miles) in length. The hydrological system, about 2 million years old, provided for the development of an extensive chamber cave system with magnificent formations of stalactites and stalagmites. You will enjoy an exciting mini-train ride through a breathtaking underground landscape. We guarantee that this day will remain a life-time memory (you can take all the pictures you want). Postojna caves and Predjama castle are actually two great tours bundled into one as the castle is close by, just ten minutes away from the caves by bus. Of course they share much in common being situated in the vicinity of each other, although historical documents refer mostly to the castle itself as it was inhabited in the middle ages. When the castle, due to its location, pops up suddenly right in front of your eyes it will leave you in awe. One could almost expect the gates of the castle to open and to see the lord of the castle and his knights ride out in fury on horseback. This is just the right place for a final photo stop to take some marvelous pictures of the castle and its surroundings before taking the ride back to your final destination.
